Listen?

Maybe it's a little dark corner
of a forgotten dream.

Maybe it's a thinning strand
from a satin drawstring.

Maybe it's gum, cracking
on the bark of a graying tree.

Maybe it's a grain
from an old footprint
on a silver beach.

Maybe it's the eroding lead
from a pencilled love-note.

Maybe it's the blunt sparkle of a moonstone,
seen through frosted glass.

Maybe it's the last raindrop in a monsoon puddle,
about to evaporate.

Maybe it's your voice,
still alive,
from another world.
